  • Bob says that it would be "inappropriate" for him to be dating Ann Jamieson (Brooke Shields) while simultaneously working as her butler. He is quite correct. According to the International Institute of Modern Butlers code of ethics, a proper butler must, "Strive to maintain appropriate relationships and boundaries in all aspects of service."
  • Movie Goof (plot holes): How did Anne get to the concert? Bob arrives at the concert alone, and Anne is seen leaving her house alone. But Bob drives her home on his scooter; the next morning when Anne and the children drive off to find him they have their car at the house.
  • The scene where Mr. Butler is showing his students how to help the master dress is quite realistic. Prime Minister Winston Churchill, for example, had a butler help him dress almost every day of his life.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Bob says that he is leaving for a yearlong cruise "first thing Saturday", but his apartment shows no signs of packing or preparations for storage. If he's going to be gone for a year there would be no reason to keep his apartment.
