Tough-talking Detroit cop Axel Foley heads to the rarified world of Beverly Hills in his beat-up Chevy Nova to investigate a friend's murder. But soon, he realizes he's stumbled onto something much more complicated. Bungling rookie detective Billy Rosewood joins the fish-out-of-water Axel and shows him the West Los Angeles ropes.

Movie Goof (crew or equipment visible): In just about every scene where Victor Maitland's black Mercedes drives past the camera, the crew is visible reflected in it's polished black doors. In particular, driving out of the warehouse after kidnapping Jenny and arriving at the Harrow Club.
During his tirade at the Beverly Palms Hotel, Axel pretends to be writing an article called "Michael Jackson: Sitting on Top of the World" for Rolling Stone magazine. In real life, Playboy ran an article called "Eddie Murphy: Sitting on Top of the World."
The T-shirt that Eddie Murphy wears in the film is from Mumford, an actual Detroit area school attended by one of the filmmakers. When film came out, the school received orders for the shirts from customers all over the world.
Movie Goof (continuity error): The bananas that Axel uses to disable the car are not the ones he was given.
