Method Man's character's name, Shameek, comes from the introduction to "7th Chamber" from the Wu-Tang Clan's 1993 debut, Enter the 36 Chambers.
The music video playing on the television when Kisha (Taral Hicks) is in bed, is actually Taral's own video for her second single "Silly" which was released before the movie came out.
The scene of Sincere (Nas) and the 12 year old boy on the park bench is a direct reference to the last verse from Nas' song "One Love", off his 1994 debut album Illmatic.
