  • Brett Ratner was originally set to direct the project, but pulled out.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Elliot pauses the video of himself in Edie's home. He pauses it on one still and when he restarts the video, it starts from a different still.
  • Elmore Leonard named Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock)'s character after real-life film critic and Detroit Institute of Arts film curator Elliot Wilhelm (the real Wilhelm makes an uncredited appearance early in the film as a patron at the Viper Room).
  • Eric Balfour's role as Derek was cut from the movie, although at least some of his scenes appears among the deleted scenes on the DVD.
