Countless wiseguy films are spoofed in this film that centers on the neuroses and angst of a powerful Mafia racketeer who suffers from panic attacks. When Paul Vitti needs help dealing with his role in the "family," unlucky shrink Dr. Ben Sobel is given just days to resolve Vitti's emotional crisis and turn him into a happy, well-adjusted gangster.

Movie Trivia/Goofs

The water fountain Paul Vitti gives Dr. Sobel as a wedding present is 40 feet tall and has a diameter of 24 feet.
Movie Goof (continuity error): When the Jeep rear-ends the Lincoln, the dashboard lights are all off, indicating the headlights are off. Outside of the vehicle, the lights are all on.
Movie Goof (continuity error): When Vitti is getting ready for the big meeting he sees in his mirror a television ad that reminds him of his father. Before he sees it the TV faces the audience, then must turn to be seen in the mirror. After Vitti sees it, he sits on his bed to watch the commercial, so the TV must again turn back around toward the audience.
Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): At the final meeting, when Ben hugs the fat gangster, he's wearing a shirt with cufflinks. Later at the meeting, he is wearing a button cuffed shirt.
