Amadeus

Movie (1984)

"Amadeus. The man. The music. The magic. The madness. The murder. The mystery. The motion picture."

Amadeus is the story of the last ten years of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life told by Director Milos Forman. The main story is about the conflict between a genius’ need for fun and a society that disgraces that type of thing. A spectacular picture about one of the most gifted composers of all times with memorable acting by Tom Hulce who played Mozart.

  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): This film is not a biopic. It is a work of historical fiction. Many of the events shown did not occur exactly as portrayed in the film, or happened at different times. Some did not take place at all and are included purely for dramatic purposes.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): In the deathbed scene, during transcription, Mozart asks Salieri to translate "Confutatis Maledictis." Whereupon Salieri says, "Consigned to flames of woe." Then a brief discussion of eternal punishment ensues. "Confutatis Maledictis" merely means "while the wicked are rebuked" and has nothing whatever to do with flames or punishment. It is the following clause "flammis acribus addictis" which means "doomed to woeful flames."
  • Several professors of music stated, after studying all of the musical keys struck on pianos throughout the film, that not one key is struck incorrectly when compared to what is heard at the exact same moment. In other words, what you see is exactly what you hear.
  • The final film of Jonathan Moore.
