Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Julius and Lauren quote Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnet #43 from the Sonnets from the Portuguese. It begins with "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." The two recited the last lines, which are "and, if God choose,/ I shall but love thee better after death."
  • The movies that Daniel and Lauren watch include "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Sting", both directed by George Roy Hill.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: The whole movie is premised on Daniel and Lauren having true love and being together forever if they kiss beneath the Bridge of Sighs in Venice at the moment of sunset as the campanile is sounding. Yet, when Julius (Laurence Olivier) looks out the window and announces that at that moment Daniel and Lauren are doing so, the sun is visibly above the horizon, with sunset clearly some time in the future.
  • The crews were denied access to shoot in the Louvre. A set was built complete with several plaster replicas.
