Flash Forward

"A mysterious global event causes everyone on the planet to simultaneously experience, for two minutes and seventeen seconds, his or her life six months in the future. When it is over, many are dead in accidents involving vehicles, aircraft, and any other device needing human control. Everyone who survived is left wondering if what they saw will actually happen.

A Los Angeles FBI agent named Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) tries to figure out what exactly happened and why it happened. Along with his team, he creates a database of people's flash forwards from around the world called the Mosaic Collective (for which a website has been launched). Apart from the various catastrophic visions, people also see themselves relapsing into various former vices; Benford seeing himself drinking again, and his wife Olivia has a vision of herself with another man."

Just watched the first episode of this and apart from the lack-lustre CGi which thankfully the show won't have to rely on very much going forward I was impressed by the premise and you have to admit they have pulled together an impressive cast.

I've been watching Paradox since I saw it named on this site three weeks back, and it certainly is all that Thor says.

The reason Paradox is better is simply because the team behind it are the team that came up with the Flashforward idea, they just got screwed over.

As usual I'm a few months behind the times.Watched the first episode last night. My first thoughts were, wow, someones thinking outside the box, right at the beginning making me think, world wide terrorist attack, alien take over, evil psychics bent on world domination. Then the grim reality, time distortion theory.Ok,I'll go along with that, lol
It was a bit melodramatic at times, verging on soap-opera kitch. The story-line kept my interest and the ending was enough to take me to the next episode.First episode:fair

Hmm, I'm going to downloaded paradox - interested in checking it out.
Yeah, I'm sticking with Flashforwad. I think it has treaded water for a few episodes, but the concept has good potential, and I can still watch heroes, I can definitely keep watching this :)

Can't we comment on comparisons with flashforward and other shows in this thread?

I think thor is concerned that this thread is getting diluted

I just ordered a copy of the book 'flashforward', I gather it will be quite a bit different from the series.

I'm particularly interested in the issue of free will vs fatalism, and how that plays into the 'parallel universes' idea. In the TV series we are seeing Mark, in particular, seeming to be drawn irresistably into the circumstances which he saw in his flashforward - despite avowedly working to avoid them. His dead colleague proved that the future is *not* set in stone, but for Mark it seems to be so. I was taken aback by his sudden hostage-taking act, it seemed implausible, yet its inevitable conclusion provided a simple explanation for what he foresaw. It's as if he conspired to cement his own future.

Comparisons are fine. Just remimding everyone that there is a thread for proper discuussion of Paradox.

in my opinion, this thread wasn't even close to getting diluted with paradox stuff. And thor had just posted the link to Paradox a few posts above. I guess Moderators have to moderate...

New threats, romance coming in FlashForward

The new DVD set of the first 10 episodes of ABC's FlashForward features a look at what's in store for the sci-fi series, which returns with new episodes on March 18, and we got an advance look at it. (Spoilers ahead!)

"A Look Ahead" is a bonus feature on Disc 2 of the set and begins with Mark (Joseph Fiennes) getting chewed out by Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance) for defying orders and going to China. Mark is suspended and forced to see a psychiatrist.

But no worries: Mark isn't going to let a little thing like suspension keep him from solving the mystery of the blackouts. He photographs the Mosaic board with his cell phone before he leaves the office.

Meanwhile, it's looking like the beginning of the end for his marriage. Olivia (Sonya Walger) is giving her report of the kidnapping of Dylan Simcoe, which ended the previous episode. She accidentally refers to Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport) as Mark, her husband. Freudian slip, anyone?

At this point, we're just waiting for Olivia and Lloyd to hook up, as in her flash-forward. It keeps getting closer as Mark sees in the surveillance video of the kidnapping. After Lloyd saves her life, Olivia gives him a hug for a little bit too long, no matter how traumatic the kidnapping was. Mark even seems to recognize the brewing chemistry as he takes his wife home.

This is a promising start to the remainder of the show's first season. It emphasizes character instead of plot, plot, plot. If Mark and Olivia go home and actually deal with things instead of trying to avoid them, that would be swell.

Some more possibilities: Perhaps Mark is frantically searching the Mosaic board in his flash-forward because he's out of the bureau and snuck back into the office. Maybe the guys coming after him are legitimate law enforcement. That doesn't explain the masks, but remember he's drunk, so we can't be sure what he's really seeing.

Also, Simon (Dominic Monaghan) is waiting in one of the offices looking at surveillance video. What's he doing working with the FBI now?

FlashForward: Part One, Season One drops on Feb. 23. FlashForward returns to ABC March 18 at 8 p.m.

So Flashforward returned and it seems no-one watched it, yet another big rating drop for the doomed show and I can't say I'm surprised it just doesn't have skilled writers.

@mewlinux are we talking about the same show?

The episode I just saw was a double-length one, following on from where the mid-season recap broadcast ended, and plenty happened in it.

Yeah, I'm talking about the same one. I thought it was slow and could have been condensed into one episode.

I bet they axe this show and leave it hanging up in the air. This happens all to much.

And the breaks for all shows are way to long. You really can forget the storyline or even lose interest in the show altogether.

i liked the catch up episode, i had forgotten a lot because of the long break. I think the show looks as if it's heading in an intersestind direction , i'll be tuning in for the next episode anyway.

Is there a bit of confusion as to what episode we just saw? It is meant to be 1x14, right? but when looking for the episode to watch there is only 1x13 uploaded yesterday everywhere I look.

"Chuck & V saved, FlashForward axed"
Friday, May 14, 2010 | Chuck, FlashForward, TV News, V View Comments

NBC's spy-comedy Chuck has been renewed for a 13-episode fourth season, despite a recent drop in ratings in its competitive Monday night timeslot. ABC's alien invasion remake V is also back for 13-episodes, more surprisingly given the poor critical reaction and low ratings, but doing so spares the network's blushes that (otherwise) all of its 2009/10 drama failed.

ABC's big sci-fi hope FlashForward, heavily promoted as "the new Lost" last year, won't be returning for a second season. Critical reaction was terrible, audiences grew bored quickly, there were creative challenges at every step, a difficult turnaround of showrunners, a debilitating four-month hiatus at mid-season, and recently the show has been getting its lowest ever ratings. So, no surprise it won't be back for more. I hear the last episode is something of a cliffhanger, which will be frustrating for the few people still watching.
