I noticed that here the show is being listed as [u]The Wizards First Rule[/u]. While it is true that this first season is based on that book from the series I feel it would be better to use the name that the greater TV community is listing the show under so as to avoid confusion.

Been watching this one and it seems to be a rehash story of Arthur and the knights of the round table, same old same old. If they want to last more than a season they had better start getting better story lines!

i agree with "blkhole",first 2 episodes were ok but nothing since to expect further series.i expected better...but will keep d/l in the hope it gets better.

I believe it was only meant for one season anyway? Like Merlin is unfortunately.

I have read all of the books and I have been waiting for this to come out.

Originally the show was meant to be a season for each book, but since the first season has elements from the second book (sisters of light, richards mastery of the swords magic) it seems that will no longer be the case, at best I see it lasting for 3 seasons... and sadly that is being generous.

Anyway... I have read all the books (each one more than 3 times), and even tho this show deviates from the book A LOT! The main story is there; a guy leads an idealic life in the woods, his father is killed and this woman comes into his life thrusting an epic mission/destiny upon him, cue magic, rebellion, love, tragedy and revelation.

A lot of fans of the book love the show, but some (including me) have lost faith in it, but for any fan of the books reading this, with episode 8 "Denna" it seems that it will follow the book somewhat, and come on, we get to see the bloody MORD-SITH!!!! it doesnt get any better than that.


Also, I'm actually suprised that there isnt too many posts about the show here, hell the last one was 4 weeks ago! and I thought the IMDB board went kinda quiet, geez.

I'm a massive fan too.I know the show is based only loosely on the books but from what I remember reading of Richard's "training" with Denna it was an excrutiatingly painful experience and a highly sexual one at the same time, Goodkinds best work went into the chapters pertaining to this storyline and having seen the official trailer for episode 8 I was truly appaled....

The show has been entertaining and the casting of the characters (except Darken Ral) is pretty good imho, especially Kaylan who looks just as I would of pictured her.

However, any fan of the book will scrutinise this new episode heavily, not only is Richard only with Denna for a short time, but Kaylan is there rooting for him through the doorway. The woman playing Denna looks more like a sister of the light than as Mord-sith in my eyes, and her outfit.. well see for yourself.

I'm really holding back the urge to enter an uncontrollable rant but I will be strong and refrain.

All in all the show is captivating, It's probabbly the best thing on television at the moment, I wish it did the books more justice, being set in New Zeland,(As I suppose was necessary, no other place on earth would capture the imagery of the midlands quite right)the show has this air of Hercules and Xena to it that kind of lets it down in a way I cannot explain in one forum post.

But whatever you do don't miss them!!! you would truly regret it. I am not a big reader but this series is truly unmissable.

After writing the 11 book series of the sword of truth Terry Goodkind is now working on other projects for 2010 and 2011 but he says that those books are a prolgoue to the real story and if 15 years worth of such amazing work is just a prologue then I can't wait to see what he has in store.


If they had captured the soul of the seeker properly and portrayed him as he is ment to be as the increulous free spirit who suprises you at every turn exceeds all expectations and has layer upon layer of dark contrasting lght within his personaltiy they would be on to a winner. Instead he's just another TV good guy swiging a sword about. I can't go into detali because of the nasty nasty spoilers but the shows plot development seems as thin as Ice so far and that's what really suprises me above all else. The twists in the book while intentioally predictable are extremely gripping and finding out that Zed is Richards Grandd i the first few episodes shocked the life out of me. If they let down the audience in this way with the more major plot developments I will be forced to stop watching all together out of respect for the Author.

As for the show lasting 3 seasons, I disagree. They seem to be cramming the storylines from the books in at complete random, seeing a sister of the light in the 5th episode I was bemused and did some digging, it seems the producers are simply getting the storyline across and building the character relations based on extracts from the books so that they can take the show in their own direction, if it turns out to be anothe Xena then I will rant and rave and kick and scream but there's a lot of promise there still and I for one can't wait to see how it develops. Fingers crossed, it will get much better, the potential is there.

I was surprised that there wasn't a thread on this show closer to the top of the forum after that fantastic season final.
