This is the synopsis according to this site:

New York City homicide detective John Amsterdam is cursed with immortality because he stopped the murder of a Native Indian girl in 1642 by stepping in front of a sword. The Indian girl rescued Amsterdam from the stab wound by making him immortal, but warns that it is a curse that will only be lifted when John meets his true love.

Okay..just did some research on the show.....

Production on Fox's midseason drama "New Amsterdam" has been shut down indefinitely.

With seven episodes of supernatural drama in the can, the network's executives have decided to take a look and decide whether to order additional segments, something considered unlikely.

Well, after watching the preair pilot, I would say it's worth downloading... The concept is interesting but I think the acting is below-par. I saw one familiar face in a supporting role but his acting was over-the-top.

If we ever get the chance to see more episodes in February 2008, I'll probably download them to see if there is improvement in the acting and the writing...

I have just watched the pre-air.

To me it is very bland and I shall not be picking up the series when it starts.

The allusions (swords excluded) to Highlander are blatantly obvious without the gritty storyline.

Apologies to those who liked it. But that's my opinion.

It was a good time waster if you had time to waste. Not even close to be a highlander clone I dont thin just another detective show and not really that good may watch 1 episode more to see if gets any darker and some sort of conspiracy theory develops give 2 fingers

Thank you for your review, I think based on it I will not download, I was on the fence since it does seem to be an idea that has been done many times, the imortal policeman that is. Since we do usualy see eye to eye on things, I will consider this bandwidth saved.

i will watch this if the writers strike continues and i am faced with reality tv....but i honestly wouldn't bother if other choices appear...my impression of the show...no chemistry...no humour...no conflicts...and thats what i look for in a show

There are many oldies you could download and watch instead if you think Newamsterdam is not up to you standards. Have only watched a few min. myself so yet to make up my mind.

not stuck for shows yet...am just going to start watching 'waking the dead'...a recommend from captsheridan...took a little while to dl...but now have a quite a few eps to watch...would be interested on your take of 'new amsterdam' after u watch it joker?

I have just rewatched the preair and for the life of me I cannot think why I posted earlier in this thread as I did.
My opinion has been totally changed around (see review)
I hope that the show will be aired and picked up.

I actually had been on the fence whether I would watch this show or not, but now with there being not alot of stuff to watch, I probably will. I'll let you all know what we landlubbers think of it..

well...a very good show, but considering it's on fox i give it 2 seasons (max 3) before it gets canceled - hope i'm wrong.

Just watched it! Amazing! I like highlander stuff.
Take a look at "man from earth" movie - also cool!

The first season could have lasted longer. It is a great show. I hope it gets picked up for another season.

Michael Ausiello reported over the weekend that this has been canceled... No surprise to me, although I loved the concept, I found the only actor worth watching in the show was Stephen McKinley Henderson (Omar)...

There's something about me starting to watch a new show that seems to get it killed. D*mn. It wasn't that great, but it was growing on me. Now, it'll go the way of Journeyman . . .

You could be right. I thought Journeyman was as good a show.

The acting on Journeyman was much better than NA, but I thought the premise of NA was better. Journeyman had real problems with continuity (which made me crazy); I thought NA did that much better (in the flashbacks).
