Space 1999

OMFG!!!1
I never realized how bad that show was.
I watched reruns as an itsy child and loved it. I can't believe that was considered serious drama.

Yeah that was pretty much my reaction too. I remembered it as being pretty sweet and so recently bought like 9 of the DVDs and now cannot stand to watch them...but still, scifi is scifi...bad scifi is better than a good sitcom to us...

@whiplash

The trouble is we are pampered today by great effects.

Also as time goes by the props become dated.

Older shows had to by their very nature do what we would today find naff.e.g.Hair colour.

But if you ignore these the storylines are still good sci-fi.

No real complaints from back then; as a kid I had made many a Eagle ship out of egg cartons (the ones that came 12 to a box could be cut up and made into very capable Eagles...stick in a Christmas tree light or three and it was great! Actually it wasn't the SFX that got dated for me; rather its mostly the acting...they were competing with Star Trek at the time and thought Shatners acting style was the one to beat....shudder...

Now he was unique in his style!
But was he made to look good by others?
Was it him who was good?
Was it down to Gene Roddenberry's brilliant concept?
Was it down to the writers?
Or that he always seemed to get the girl?

Any and all of these contribute.
But it was his best if you don't believe just watch some T J Hooker !!!

He's been doing tv since 1951.
He has been is a lot of horrible tv shows and movies.
There was a horrible movie he did in the 70's called "The Devils Rain". Do not see this movie. For that matter, anything outside of the Star Trek franchise. I believe it is an outright miracle that he even got the role of Kirk.

Well IMHO Jeffrey Hunter was even worse in the role.

see Star Trek The Original Series 'The Cage'

barbara bain was o.k. but gee whiz no direction to the plots.
tried to be aloof and precise but never made it. it seemed
continuity was a bad word. it really wasted time and effort.

Really. The dvd is really bad on this show. I loved it when I was younger. I did not know it was on dvd. Too bad.

i got to say i liked this show when i was younger .
but think its still watch-able today
i read somewhere that they went from solving problems to shoot to kill and the sets when from massive to small .
in comes Catherine Schell and out goes Prof. Victor Bergman
the storeys went to pot somewhere about then .i may be the only one but id still watch it .

it was better than ufo . that had spaceships that looked like they were on string
( i liked that series as well ) but that does look dated .
