Of late there have been a number of new members adding other members as friends without reference to them and I for one object to this most strongly.

You gave us the ability to delete friends from our profiles if we wish.

Is it possible to extend this so that taking this action will also remove ones avatar from the 'friends' profile page as well as removing them from ours.

Thus friendship will always be a 2-way thing. The act of deletion destroying all trace of a cancelled friendship.
And allowing members to cancel these foolish additions.

What if you don't know you've been deleted on purpose, and you just assume it's some kind of site glitch that got you deleted? One might go back and re-add that friend. Not everyone is open to telling people if they are upset or angry, so not everyone would know this. Maybe there's some way to have a temporary image in place of the friend that deleted me, so I'd know not to re-add them.

i know brand new mwmbers adding people they've never even spoken to is annoying, but once or twice i came across myself in a members list of friends and thought it was nice that they considerd me a friend . Being added as a friend should be considerd a compliment. I'm not sure if the i'll add you only if you add me approach is the way i would want to do things. Also if i was to throw a strop and delete a friend (though i've never actually done this) i would think it should be their decision as to wether or not they still considerd me a friend and not a decision i should be able to make on their behalf. If after time all was forgiven and you went back to re-add someone it would be nice to discover that they had still thought of you as a friend.

Yes but adding

JSZing, Curiousandroid, llcool76, Oscarmatic, Teqilacub,
all who have not be on site for months is just plain crazy
and is only done to get the adding friends points or
is it because they still remain in the 'top 20' list of members?
and the person adding thinks kudos is attached to having them on their profile. There is no excuse for it on everybody's profile it shows when you last visited the site.

As a general principle I regard all members as friend as we all like TV. This does not mean I wish to strike up a friendship relationship with everybody. I would like to have that choice.
Not have it thrust upon me. Friendships in any walk of life develop they do not suddenly spring into life.

In my Bowls Club we have about 500 members we all regard each other as 'friends' we greet and are pleased to see. But we all know we are not Friends only those where the acquaintanship goes further. eg Mekon and Myself.

for me, the adding/removing of friends is a non-issue either way... my idea of a friend is someone that i feel comfortable with, that i enjoy chatting with, someone that adds an interesting review or post in a forum...i consider everyone to be a friend as long as they show respect for the site and other members...whether they are on my friend list or vice versa.

my friends list sometimes goes a very long time without checking it....but i do view my hottie/fave character list quite often!
