I am working on re-doing the backend, so the editing of show info is currently disabled.

Should be back within a day or so. When finished should make things a lot easier. You'll be able to see at a glance which users did what on each show page and a history of the changes. And the ability to edit "similar shows" and "related URLs" for each show.

AAAhhh, is that also causing problems with posting to Guest Books?

could be, I am re-doing the entire backend. if after a couple hours any bugs are still there, please post them here.

@odo, anything you uploaded should be fine. that's why before starting the re-organizing of the backend I turned off editing and did a full-backup.

in case you guys are curious.

The site has been online around 15 months and have been slowly building on top of the original design. For anyone who's been with us that long knows the site is far different than when we started. I finally found the time to back now and re-organize all the code and databases. When completed with make it a lot easier to add new features and fix any bugs.

Been watching change is good for the soul. good job.

After 3 hours I still cannot post to Mekon's Guest Book. Whiplash reports to me that he was able to post to Kolbinfo's GB, however, not to three other members.

Chris Just tried to GB you, Error cannot reach server. Shall I log out and re login and try again? Try someone elses GB?

the automatic updates are also disabled while I finish the reorganizing and new wiki system. more than half way completed now. hopefully will be ready by tomorrow and that's when the editing and recurring updates will start again.

you shouldn't have any more bugs for posting. try logging-out, closing your browser, and if necessary clear your cache. will insure you are running the latest javascript code. let me know if you still have trouble

You can click on [Edit This Page] at the top of any show page to see the progress.

Example: sharetv.org/shows/prison_break/edit

It's not quite ready yet, but you can now see the Top Contributors, Recent History, and click on each tab to see the directions/notes. All that's left is to add the actual input forms. what do you think of the new design for editing show info?

Do not know if this is from changes you are doing or not?

The TVrage option on the show page does not take you directly to the information about the show anymore, but just to the TVrage Home page.

Everything else looks good so far.

in the forums there is a post about guidelines for images..i read it a while ago (kolbi gave some really good tips..and i also think she started it)

maybe a link to a forum with that kind of info would be helpful for people that just need a little more explanation and directions?

GB still borked?

Not sure if the admin is working on it at this time but of the last 6 attempts to post to Apparas GB, had 4 fail and two succeed. When the failures happened it was always due to a server errors..

It would appear that when the servers are utilised by Admin doing a global change to some part of the back-end, that the servers are so heavily utilised that we have to wait for capacity to be available to us for postings to be effected.

Will do boss; would have tried it before if all attempts had failed (from the same session). Also I am running FF 3.0b5 which means I am restarting the browser regularly ;)

I could be wrong but the problem *seems* to manifest if you take longer than say 5 mins to complete a GB entry. In my case today for example, single word and small (a few sentences) made it without incident. Longer ones were generally the ones that failed. This feels like that other problem where if you take too long to finish a post a cookie times out and the only way to post after that is to copy the contents of your post out to the clipboard or external file, re-log into Share and post again.

Will be logging out of this session in about 20 mins and will try again from another location.

* episode guides now also show Specials that aired [ex: sharetv.org/shows/family_guy/episodes ]
* trivia and genre automatically update from IMDB. Working on the Cast data now. When finished will enable editing

sorry for the delay. looks like will be another day or so. but know it will be worth it. Things are already far more organized and efficient than before. Much easier to add additional features now

Just giving this thread a "bump" so that members are aware that the back-end work continues... There may be another couple of weeks of work to follow and editing options will remain turned off during that period as well...

When Chris has completed the initial changes and mods have assisted in helping to make sure any bugs are worked out, it will be much easier to manage - for both mods and members...

If I may add my 2c worth.

From what I know (Mods have had previews) no member should be disappointed with the results and dare I say the truly attractive site we will have.

to keep everyone up-to-date. I had planned on just making minor changes to organize all the editing functions, but since the current Season ended seemed like the perfect time to re-do the whole system and implement the wiki-style history and control panels I've been talking about for months. when completed will make it possible for us to do so much more with the site.

Just giving this thread a "bump" to remind members that editing is still turned off (no one can add images or descriptions) right now. You may see some changes appear to tv show pages as Admin continues the work on the back-end.

You may see empty (silhouette) character images on TV Show pages right now, but there is still testing going on... Images cannot yet be filled in.

are you saying some that have images are currently displaying silhouettes temporarily
or
that it's blank because nobody can upload at present and is truely a silhouette to be filled in, in the future.

Editing is almost all back. The following are back online:

@quark, both. a new cast database has been implemented. Was able to keep most of the images correctly, but there are some that need to be fixed when we get the last 2 panels ready

Just a friendly reminder to members...

Image editing (character or main TV show image) remains turned off.

Admin added some additional features and that set back the schedule. Images will be the last feature put back in to place, so you can expect another 2-3 week delay...

Please note members, Chris has returned the ability to add videos without including the Videos section for you to edit, delete, and keep track of the videos you add (he will do this eventually).

You need to follow whatever guidelines are set up re: authorized sources when using YouTube or one of the other options available.

I will start another thread to report the need for troubleshooting in the meantime...
