Is a higher number for Video BitRate and Dimensions better for TV full screen viewing?

I've noticed that a larger screen size (720x480 vs 320x240) of the same file size seems to look better, but I don't know if that's just me fooling myself... I've also noticed that encoding XviD seems to be better than DivX. Dunno. But yeah, the greater the file size which a higher CBR will create, the better the video quality...all things being equal.

For a Square TV set I like nstc 352x240.
Just make sure that how ever you convert them to use CBR HQ for best resualts.
I use TMPGEnc Plus 2.59.47.155 for most of my editing.

I must admit, though, that I've seen some videos with HORRIBLE video quality but high bit rates. It really depends on your source material and program as much as any setting.

Well for a standard tv the aspect ratio is 4:3 and for an HD tv is it 16:9 the resolutions are totally diffrnet. The answer lies in the source material from which the tv show was ripped from. If for example the source material was 640*480 and you ripped it at 720*480 it will naturally look worse. Higher bitrate just means that there is more information per second of the video. It's like a digital camera. If you have a camera with low Mega pixles and you are shooting very high res photos it will look like crap. But if you have a high mega pixle camera and you are shooting at a high res then it will look good. So it's all source material there is no right or wrong answer to your question

thetrekhippy if you don't already have it I would suggest you get a copy of TMPGEnc V.2.524.63.181
and use it for your re-encoding. It can not correct all picture ills, but does have the ability to encode in 2 Different HIGH Quality MODES.

Check it out

@chazzbo

Do you mean your monitor screen is too small?

If so why not use your TV screen as a monitor for the purpose. Any good computer store will show you how and sell you the cabling needed. Revertion to ordinary monitor is quite simple as well.

I did try TempGen, however I found it difficult to use, too many expert settings I don't have time to learn about right now.. and I'm horrible with numbers in any form. Right now, I was wondering if anyone knows a good .avi repair program. I just tried that new DivFix , but when I click on Check Errors for the file, it just closes the program and gives me the old "Send or Don't Send" error. Thanks

I have always used AviFixed, found in the Klxodec Pack.

The last Codec Packs that I can find with it in is, either Klcodec353f or Klmcodec353. They can be found in
the older version section of Edskes File Download Mirror.

http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirrorold.htm

It is a safe site and I have never had any problem with it.

As to the DivxFix every place that i have checked they say tere is problems with it such as you have experianced.

FFMpeg works for me and is cross-platform. Yes trek hippy its command line app but there are 101 GUI front-ends for it. Personally it is like my swiss army knife for video.

I could send an email showing how to do what ever you need to if interested.
