See this beginners guide for burning AVI's to DVD for playback on any DVD player. (e.g not just burning the avi files to a disk for a DVD player capable of playing DivX). Uses DVD Flick, a FREE open source DVD authoring software for Windows. http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/dvd-flick-guide.html |

man i just checked that out,think i will stick to "nero burningrom" or vision express |
||
> 2 year ago |
Actually, most of those steps you don't have to do. The first time I used it I just dragged the AVI's I wanted to burn onto the main window and clicked start. The default settings seemed to produce a really good result. |

know what you mean,but still i will stay with what i have,but ty for the info.. |
||

The default setting are fine,but for better quality go into the advanced tab and set it to run over it twice and on the burn tab check burn to disc. The results are noticable. I'm real big on DVDflick for its ease on use and quality. |

The best program to use to convert movies/shows to a dvd is ConvertXtoDVD program. |

Think I will stick to Nero it works good for me. am using Nero-7.2.7.0_eng with no problems no mater how I decide to encode. |

Does it always take so long to download to computer? I use bit torrent to download the program - some take four hours while others take me a week at two hours per day. I save it to pc and then copy to dvd - the copy to dvd only takes 20 minutes but downloading to my pc takes forever. Anyone have any shortcuts - please? Thanks. |
||
> 2 year ago |
@sandy01 It depends on the number of seeds and leeches (peers) there are for the torrent....the more seeds, the quicker it is going to download. Hover your mouse over the health bars to see their status. There is plenty of tips and info about the place about download speeds etc, just browse the Downloads Help section and other parts of the forum for a bit more info. =) |

super v.2007.build. 22 works great just drag your video files into it.set the output container at vob dvd compliant and set the output video codec for mpeg-ll-- set the folder for the vob files that are created. set the bitrate around 25000 if you want good quality {not great} but you can fit about three and a half hours on one dvd. then i just burn with nero street smart. my burner gives me two warnings that it might not work but it does work every time. |
||
> 2 year ago |
if the files are in divx or xvid you can burn without converting and saves a lot of time also you can get 12 45 minutes shows on one dvd. just be sure your dvd player has divx . and also burn it as a datadvd |

I've been using nero but my problem is that despite being on adsl the downloads take forever. I can only do a couple of hours at a time or my isp will cut me off. Does anyone have a quicker way to download to pac for copying with nero to a disk? I don't want to spend time watching these on my pc - I am on here enough and would like to get away from my pc as often as possible so all I want is to download these for burning to a dvd I can watch on my tv. Any suggestions greatly appreciated remembering I'm in Australia so what works for most others (ie the US) may not work for me. Thanks. |

@sandy01 Which ISP you with in Aus? You shouldn't be cut off for downloading more than a couple of hours. I'm in Vic and my ISP is a Telstra reseller. I have no problems with downloading TV shows, except sometimes I go too far and go over my download limit (I pay $95/month for 30GB @ 1.5Mbs). It usually takes me between 2-8 hours to download a single episode (but I often download a few at once). I generally watch them on my laptop, but I have burnt them to DVD to watch on the telly a few times. It is pretty slow to burn to DVD though, your looking about twice the length of the episode to encode and burn to DVD. Probably the best option is to setup a media centre PC which you can connect directly to your TV and watch the shows without having to burn them to disc. |

For people that use linux this script is go from avi2mpeg http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showpost.php?p=2856078&postcount=27 and then you can use java program called varsha http://varsha.sourceforge.net/ to split the mpeg into the VIDEO and AUDIO directories and either burn or create an image of the dvd. |

looking at all the replies i still think "nero burning rom" sound the easiest to operate. 1,open nero 2,select select where downloads are 3,open folder 4,drag across 5,burn. you can check the box at the bottom to make sure the burning was good. $95 a month & only 30gb that is expensive aussie |

"$95 a month & only 30gb that is expensive aussie" You can tell me!! It's a bugger living on such an isolated continent thats internet tubes are owned and monopolized by a very greedy company. I also live in a regional area, so I can only get ADSL (which I am very lucky to get, since only a few hundred metres down the road you can only get dial up), whereas my city friends can get cable or ADSL 2 or even wireless with higher speeds and more downloads for much less than I have to pay. =) |

regarding your dvd player,,google H&B DX-3255....its a player that plays all the files...also plays mpeg & a few more in file form it plays normal dvds... you can burn a 12episode series on to disc in about 20min. thats what i use. |
||

n8ph8ts --with any divx or xvid you can burn them without encoding if your dvd supports divx i can get about 8 videos if they are the 350 mb size and i can burn those 8 shows on my burner in about 50 minutes at 8x you must have a much faster burner maybe 32x |
||
> 2 year ago |
oh yes burn them as a data disk if they are xvid or divx. this saves time encoding which in my experience.. that takes as long as burning them maybe more |
||
> 2 year ago |
correction-- I get eight hours on the dvd. but the 350mb shows are 45 minutes meaning i can get 12 episodes |
||
> 2 year ago |
reggie....wow...50 minutes for a 4.7GB DVD? Something wrong there. I'd be surprised if my 4 year old computer took more than 10 minutes to do that. (and I have an 8x burner) |
||
> 2 year ago |
yep the reason you are having problems with your speed of downloads are that it comes down to how far away you are from your exchange, however there is a way improve your speed and that is with port forwarding go here http://portforward.com/routers.htm find you router name then follow the instructions this will help you download faster, also reggie check your dvdrom has been set up right and it is not set up as a slave to the harddrive as this will slow your performance by about 30t needs to be a master on it own parellel port or sata drive as it take my computer 12mins to read and convert then burn a full dvd disk hope this helps |

aussuenickussand permiweb---- i have 12 episodes and each of them are 45 minutes. This gives me approximately 540 minutes to burn. NOW when burning at 8x that means if you have 8 minutes to burn that would be done in one minute. Now the 540 approx.minutes that i am burning would be just done in between 50 and 60 mimutes. This is more than 4.7GB because divx burns data and is smaller and have some room at the end but not enough to burn another 4 5minutes |
||
> 2 year ago |
the only way to go faster is to do it on 16x or 48X I can burn faster and i do sometimes but i can wait rather then have make a dvd into a coaster. At 48x that comes out at 12 minutes for 540 minutes. Have a good day |

Reggie....are you burning the AVI files to disc....or are you burning DVD Video (eg. encode the AVI's into DVD video) to the disc? If you are burning just the files (no encoding or anything) then 50 minutes for a 4.7GB is an excessively long time. On the other hand, if you are encoding the AVI's so that they can be watched like any other DVD on any normal player, then 50 minutes for a full disc is actually a very VERY short time. Since you say you are burning 12 episodes onto a disc, then I would assume you are burning the actual AVI files onto a DVD. This is because those 12 episodes is 9 hours worth of video, and a normal 4.7GB disc only holds 2 hours worth of video (unless the video was compressed to an almost unwatch-able state). A little bit of correction though RE your drive speed. 8X (or 12X, 16X etc) actually means multiples of 1,352 kilobytes a second transfer speed. So an 8X DVD burner is actually theoretically capable of burning 10,820KB (or 10.8MB) of data onto the disc per second. Also, there is no such thing as a 48X DVD burner (CD burners only go that high). |

I'm having a problem burning avi's to dvd's. Some of the dvd's play fine, I use ConvertXtoDVD first. If it doesn't play I try Nero Vision Express (I have Nero7). If it still won't play I burn to the hard drive with Nero vision then use Nero Express to burn to dvd. My problem is, why is it that some of the dvd's I burn, using the convertxtodvd on the same settings each time, even with the same brand of dvd-r, some of those will play fine on my two different players at home and sometimes only on one and . I realize if they won't play at all it's most likely a bad dvd. I use memorex dvd-r generally. |

Just curious,why would you go to all the time and trouble of converting the files when they will play and burn with Divx?I use to use DVDFlicks to convert to MP-4 to play on my DVD player,it would take hours and you could only fit about four hours of data on a 4.7GB disk.I can burn almost 12 hour of data on the same size disk in about 10 minutes using DIVX. As a part of the Divx bundle they have a 30 day trial of a converter that deals with almost all file formats. A DIVX compatible dvd player can be bought at Wal-mart for 39 dollars.I prefer HP disks with Lightscribe. |
