i want to speed up my downloads too, im using miro to download my torrents |

Miro is a great player with lots things you can do with it.But its not the best choice for a bittorrent client. You could increase dl speed by changing to a better client. Many people on this site use uTorrent, and I here good things about it. I use Azureus and like it alot. There are many more ,but seem to be the most popular. |

I use comcast cable high speed and I did a speed check on utorrent and shows my download speed at 5,652 Kbs and upload speed at 600Kbs |

5000 Kb/s should give you a download speed of about 500KB/s This of course is if the torrent is well seeded i would usually recommend torrents that are seeded on a 2:1 ratio |

what do you think the problem is then why speeds are so slow? |
||

Sometimes you just end up with torrents that take their time because of any number of factors.Have these speeds been the same every time you dl? Do you use a routor and if you do,are the ports forwarded? Do you use the patch that is offered on this site by link? I hear it offers some help. Another thing I heard is that Comcast is hostile about bittorrent users. |

I do have a router and I just fwd it and it seems to have helped--my speeds went up to an avg of 160kbs and seed and peers both went up alot. Thanks for the help. This site is great......... |

I have port 48122 running at present,would it benefit me to randomise ports in my preferences,I don't have any problems with downloads(sometimes 10kbs ranging up to 150kbs)I wondered if it would make any difference,I am on cable broadband 20mb & have optimised for 20mb broadband connection it just don't seem any quicker than when I was on 2mb Broadband...just more expensive. any helpful replies must be in computer idiots jargon! |

@gedmen So can the unhelpful replies be in Hi-tech jargon? Seriously I get about 2.8-3.0Mbs and pay for up to 8Mbs but I have seen downloads either separately or in total over 200Kbs The real question is are you paying for up to 20Mbs or do they guarantee it? up to means anywhere between 0.1Mbs and 20Mbs. I will ask my knowledgeable nephew Nog to assist you. |

@quark nothing too hi-tech...I picked up an internet for dummies book,then put it back down(not enough pictures)lol. Joker has given me a couple of tips in my guest book which I will put off till I get my phd in computer literacy lol.I would welcome any tips from your nephew...cheers |

@gedmen, First thing I need to know is if you are using a router,and if so what make?Second,what is your bittorrent client? Third what is your upspeed that you are paying for? |
||

@nogsds9 yes,the router is made by scientific Atlanta, I am on U Torrent & you will have to simplify the third question for me or point me to the place I can find the answer. |

@gedmen, This would the upload speed provided by your ISP.You already know your download speed provided by them (20MBs).With uTorrent it is more important to have the correct upload speed than download. Do you have your ports forwarded in your router? |
||

yes & I will look up the upload speed,I've left a message in your guestbook...cheers |

it's up to 384kbs |

@gedmen, If you are still having a problem,try this.In your client click options>speed guide>connection type.Make sure you enter your upspeed correctly here.Also log into your modem and see if a firewall is blocking your client,if so you can shut this firewall off or forward a port.If you do decide to forward a port(if this is the case)go into your client and click options>preferences>connection and unclick randomize port.I would deeply suggest reading the FAQ on the uTorrent site and all the guides.This will help you greatly.We can move on to the more difficult things after you do a little reading.Give a man a fish,feed him for a day,teach a man to fish,fedd him for a lifetime. |

Gedmen, double cick on any torrent you have in utorrent a box should appear look at max uploads and set it to 100,next,max downloads and set to 20000,next,number of upload slots put it to 400.and it shoul speed up,make sure you test your port is forwarded properly,if it is there should be a green circle with a tick in it if not it will be a brown circle with a triangle in,click on this symbol and a box opens check your port forwarding with this. |

Here is an easy way to max your download speed.Considering that your network is running right and ports are forwarded proper.Try this;have a torrent downloading,lower your upload limit one point at a time and observe your download rate as you do it,set at the upload limit at your highest download speed observed,then lower your download limit until it speeds up to your maximum download. That's it plain and simple.This is for uTorrent.This works great for me,I d/l at my max 95% of the time. |

Is there a way to increase upload speed? my limit seems to be around 90kbs... |
||
4 days ago |
@ged,sorry but you are limited by your ISP,you get what you pay for.The only way to increase upload would be to pay for more bandwidth.90kb/s is quite respectable for an upload speed.I top out at 60kb/s. |
