Port forwarding is the main thing that will speed up uTorrent if there is a firewall blocking it. To check if you need to forward your port do the following in uTorrent: 1) Go to Options->"Speed Guide" 2) Click "Test if port is forwarded properly" There's a similar thread: sharetv.org/forum/how/104-how-do-i-make-downloading-faster |

what if i had off my firewall?do i still need to port forward?by offing the firewall,will it decrease my download speed? |
||

You do if you have a router blocking the ports. Use the "Test" in uTorrent to check. |
||
Apr 12, 2007 3:09AM |
If you have a Windows PC and no other firewall outside it, you're infected in about 30 secs after connecting nowadays. |

ok,i have forward my port,and the 'test' in utorrent has also said i have succeed in port....but why does the download speed maintain so slow...its bout 0-27kb/s?help me... |
||

I usually get about 100KB/sec, but I've seen as much as 800KB on popular torrents. 1) How many peers does the torrent have? 2) What kind of bandwidth do you have? 3) Try installing the patch from sharetv.org/how and remove the limit from uTorrent (http://torrentfreak.com/speed-up-bitcomet-and-µtorrent/). |
||
Apr 12, 2007 4:15AM |
thx for replying.....well,the peers is actually half the amount of seed....and i am using a 512k speed.....also,i have install the patch thing that u recommend to us.....its says limit the connection...i m now limiting it at 90 connection...is it ok with that? |
||

also,how to remove the limit in utorrent?i am a numb....thx.. |

1) Follow the directions here to set the limit in uTorrent. I've found 50 to be a good setting: http://torrentfreak.com/speed-up-bitcomet-and-µtorrent/ 2) The seeders to downloaders ratio is not nearly as important as the number of peers (seeders+downloaders). A seeder is just someone who has the complete file. You still download from other peers who haven't finished yet. 3) So then you only have 512K from dsl/cable? My cable Internet is rated at 5MB although those numbers are way off from what you actually get. |

For every one. If you have not done Port Forwarding do so. It should increase you speed. I went from an average of 19-40kb to 70-300kb on most of my DLs. |

@prich09 read "itcdr" comment bellow and follow instructions. Port forwarding is the main thing that will speed up uTorrent if there is a firewall blocking it. To check if you need to forward your port do the following in uTorrent: 1) Go to Options->"Speed Guide" 2) Click "Test if port is forwarded properly" There's a similar thread: sharetv.org/forum/how/104-how-do-i-make-downloading-faster That should tell you what you need to know. |

sorry maybe i didnt explain this rite. ive actually know all about port forwarding but theirs a special button u press on utorrent which take you to a page which tells you if its forwarded properly. however for some reason recently when i click this button nothin happens where normally i new page would open. does anyone no why this is? is it a computer setting i may have changed which is stopping programs from openingg website links? |
||
Oct 25, 2007 4:08PM |
I would suggest a re-install. |
||

The button on Utorrent you press is the little Green check mark on the bottom center. If it is green to begin with, you don't need to check to see if your port is open because it is. If it is yellow, your port is not open for the time being anyway. If you click it and the window opens (Welcome to the UTORRENT Speed Guide) you have to then press "Test of port is forwarded properly". If you press it and nothing happens or you get a blank browser page, check to make sure you are not blocking the HTTP in PEER GUARDIAN. If you do this and it doesn't work, I agree you need a re-install. |
||
Oct 25, 2007 6:57PM |
Also you may want to check your firewall settings and be sure it allows the program to open. |
||
Oct 26, 2007 12:57AM |
"check to make sure you are not blocking the HTTP in PEER GUARDIAN." sorry but where i can i find this out? |
||
Oct 26, 2007 1:11AM |
I can now assume you are using Peer Guardian since you asked the question. If you aren't using it, I strongly recommend you get it. The way things are going now, you can't afford to be brave. Click the little blue PG icon that should be in your windows tray on the right side. When it comes up, check the box on the top right that says either block HTTP or Allow HTTP. To the left of that it will tell you the status. If it says block HTTP then unblock it for now and see if that fixes your problem. |

@prich09 - If you get the little green check mark at the bottom center of utorrent screen then all is ok. If not and you're not able to use the check port forward button under options - speed guide...then you need to reinstall utorrent. Same thing happenned to me a while back. I had made some changes and messed up some things, i don't remember what I had changed, but something was wrong. One suggestion, If at one point you had things working well and you like the way utorrent was running, use the same utorrent. Since you are already familliar with it, no sense trying to get used to an upgrade. |

OH yes and never turn fire wall off just keep on normal block but allow acception AND U do not need worry about torrents speed or any other down-load speed JUST make sure your ports are forwarded properly and router are set correct it will down load faster and better. if you know your ports, thats better adjust sites accordingly by allowing that perticular site by giving the port allowing to use the port setting download the SOFTWERE of PORT FORWARD AND ADJUST ACCORDINGLY ITS EASY AND AUTOMATIC and SEARCH......... Ok this trick worked for me & my downloads went from 50kbs-80kbs & increased to 250kbs-450kbs.I am using UTorrent & I believe it works on bittorrent & it takes 10 seconds to do it... open up your torrent(UTorrent in my case) 1/click on options, 2/click on preferences, 3/click on connections, 4/uncheck the maximum upload rate & set it to 0 (your maximum download rate should be set to 0 also) 5/Click apply & ok. I can download full episodes in 10mins now :-) |
