I remember when I was a kid back in the sixties you could join fan clubs for shows on TV. I was a TV fanatic when I was a child.You could send away for posters of your show and get addresses to write to your favorite actors/actresses.They sometimes would send you back an autographed picture that you could brag to your friends about.Star Trek,The Monkey's,Batman,man it was TV heaven back then.
Do people still practice fanaticism's rites and rituals?
Do the networks and studios still support a fan base?
Open to your thoughts on the subject.
It seems to me fans are still every present. If you follow the journey of Firefly you'll see there is still a strong fan base. Of course Firefly is more popular now than when it aired.
The way to go now is electronic. Podcasts, Tweets, fansites, Facebook pages all take the place of the fan letter. Someone will respond, but not likely to be who you think it is. I tried to write to a show once and could only get a web address for which I was given a form letter response, and totally turned off.
I don't know that networks or studios try to keep up with fans. They are so quick to cancel a show these days. I haven't seen any posters outside of Hannah Montana. You use to be able to get model spaceships, or figurines(dolls), games, collectibles something to show your loyalty to your favorite show.
I think actors need feedback. Need to know someone out there is watching, paying attention and loving their work. The fan letter, fan clubs use to fill that void. I wonder if they get that same thing from the electronic media.

thats so true its not like before... I dont know if you remember the Tv show called Renegade.. Well i am living way in Jamaica and as a kid and i remember my aunties writing the network that aired the show at the time and they would recieve photos signed..unti this day they still got them framed, hanging on the wall.
conventions are huge the world over for tv stars and film stars
I guess there are both fan based web sites and sites supported by networks and corporations.You can purchase most of what you want online.The days of having that personal connection to a show or TV personality via the autograph and poster kick back for being a loyal viewer are over.
