Can't help it but I always cheer for the bad guy in movies and TV shows. At the time one of my favorites must be Ben Linus from Lost. How about u guys out there?

I like..."good" bad guys. Not bad guys with a good streak in them, I mean ones that are *really* good at being bad, ones that delight in being bad or evil with enough intellect to be clever. This cross-section of bad-guy skills puts them apart from probably 90f the bad-guys (and hey: this is usually not always a guy either).

However the bad-guys who rise to the top of the pile for me are those with the above skills and the heart to have a ball doing it without seeming maniacal.

While the TV gods may strike me dead for uttering a movie reference here it is purely for example (and technically at least one of these guys had their own tv show at one time) but two movie villains I have always loved are Freddy Kruger and The Wishmaster; unlike most other villains of their genre these guys really love their work and have fun doing it. And it shows.

Does Michael Myers or Jason What-his-name ever look like they are having fun? I don't think so. They are more like animals that need to be put down.

The sad thing is that because of the episodic nature of TV, bad guys tend to have to be disposable. As such, bad-guys have less room to establish themselves as a credible foe for the hero, so when they do, they tend to be really good. Take Sylar (sp) from Heroes...excellent villain. You knew nothing was beyond him. He was not an idiot. Firmly committed to his purpose, single minded almost. And he took a certain perverse satisfaction in what he did.

I am not saying he was the ultimate, just first one to come to mind...

The baddie you love to hate, but look always forward to his next appearance 'Q' played by John de Lancie in most series of Star Trek.

Ah yes that's a good one

Another character close to the mould of Q.
At first sight he appears to be just plain nasty.
Then you realise that it's more a difference of the morality base he has by circumstance grown into.

The Mayor from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was evil, suave, and had excellent manners. All he was missing was a sense of humor; which is why I like Q, too.

Would Dr. House be considered a bad guy? I know he would consider himself one. He is terribly rude, inconsiderate, manipulative, plus that nasty addiction he has.
Do all the lives he saves cancel all that out?

I liked the Coyote. Why? Because it made Dad laugh the hardest and he had one of those laughs that made the whole room laugh with him.

How about nominating 'The Devil' from Brimstone?
He is the same actor who played Lionel Luther on Smallville.

Some of my favorites are bad guys are: Al Swarengen from Deadwood, the devil from Reaper is pretty funny and Tony Soprano is always cool. If they count as "bad guys" I'd have Dr.House and Perry Cox from Scrubs on the list...

As you are on DS9 do stop by my bar and have an evening of drinks and/or try out my Holosuite programs all on the house of course for you.

I have informed my staff, by cross-temporal email, to expect you.
The password they will expect to hear for your free evening is Showjumper.

I applaud your taste in sci-fi.

But remember my 286th Rule of Acquisition
