2GB in 3 machines, 1GB in two others, don't know about the other machines (their really old). |
> 1 year ago |
@ Jolker 4 gig but xp only sees 3.2 of it but it was on sale when I got it and it was the fastest at the time ddr2 888 If you are thinking of getting new machine do not get vista piece of crap in my opinion \ cheers |
> 1 year ago |
@joker - not much of a thread mate - there's not much to get one's teeth into (thinking of Quark here!). I think I'll start a new thread - What size is ............ your VDU? What think you? |
> 1 year ago |
Same as you Mekon Just 1 Gig |

2GB DDR2 |
Anyone here overclock? |
Yes. |
Ok explain how to overclock, for thosw of us who are ignorant |
> 1 year ago |
I don't advocate people who would consider themselves ignorant on the basics of over-clocking a system should even try. Keep your warranty as it will probably serve you better. |
> 1 year ago |
I only got 1GB. But it seems quite enough for WinXP. |
> 1 year ago |
That's enough for vista also. |
@hush320 Are you saying you like vista and have had no problems with it? If so you are the first on this site to say so! |
> 1 year ago |
Had an upgrade recently, now have 2GB's ram. |
> 1 year ago |
The only problem for me with vista is that it slows download speed. Other than that its just good. |
> 1 year ago |
Only 1Gb |
@heiqal You don't need to say 'only 1 GByte' as the norm, these days, is 1 or 2 GBytes. There is little need for more. Some people, who have 4 or more GBytes, cannot access their full memory capability. So they have wasted their money. |
> 1 year ago |
@hush320 What torrent client do you use? I believe that vista was not properly supported on utorrent until 1.7 so if you have a previous version you may want to look at that. You may need to fiddle with your settings some and in some cases set your ip in preferences/bittorrent I have had no slowdown whatsoever with vista. |
> 1 year ago |
My friend has a Dodge Ram, wait is that supposed to be a dumb blond joke? Hehe, 4Gigs, Not too shabby... |
> 1 year ago |
it's not the amt of ram you got , but how you use it |
> 1 year ago |
Well said Curious, I mean it could also be that you need the use of ram depending on choice of programs, Video, Graphics, it does seem like everyone is after the bigger badder processor, but I like mine, and it is all mine. |
> 1 year ago |
2.5 Gig Can have 4 But dont need it. Don't play games,or use griphic stuff. |
> 1 year ago |
Thats great OnlyMe1, due to my career choice, I need a 16Gig, but 4 works fine, what we want is never ever what we get... |
> 1 year ago |
@UupThere What career is that? |
I do a little video editing, webpaging and advertising, not to mention, I also help friends with any computer programing problems they might have...And the faster the processor is always better... |
> 1 year ago |
1-2 gigs in each box. Haven't needed more. W~~~ |
> 1 year ago |
2GB (with this duo-thingy, forgot the term) New pc, but XP - denied Vista. |
> 1 year ago |
Just 1GB for me. But that suits my online needs :) |
> 1 year ago |
1 GB BUT I NEED MORE!!!!!!!!!!! |
4 gigs |
I have just increased my RAM by 500GBytes - a new external hard-drive. So now I have 300 internal 250GBytes and 500GBytes external. That should be enough for a few years to come. |
> 1 year ago |
@mekon nagila You increased you storage capabilties not your ram lol cpu is the brain ram is the heart and storage is the lungs lol |
> 1 year ago |
Have 1gb of ram now with new PC. If insurance pays me for old PCthat was taken out by lightning will increase it and add more storage. |
> 1 year ago |
Nagila mekon Don't you believe it.LOL ( XHD ) AHFA |
> 1 year ago |
2 gigs, about to order 2 more. Can't wait. |
> 1 year ago |
752 I find if I keep my C drive (meaning the one with windows) as uncrowded as possible my machine runs fast. When my old Compaq died last summer I replaced it with a new Vista machine. After 2 days I returned it and spent the same money to bring my Compaq with XP back to life plus some upgrades. Vista is horrifying. |
> 1 year ago |
@singlew4 Vista sucks all resources out of your machine, tried for about half a day. Then a quick format of the c: drive and back to XP. |
> 1 year ago |
@NIP - My oldest son is a civilian computer tech for the US Army and they wont touch VISTAat this time. |
> 1 year ago |
I have been telling everybody for the past 7 months vista is broke. In order to run vista you need High end machine at least 4 gigs of ram and a 3.0 quad core I built machine with 8 gigs of ram It cost over 9 gs and guess what vista didnt like his brand new 900 dollar video card it would not run directx 10 which vista was made for go figure |
> 1 year ago |
@NIP Vista a damn good idea but badly thought out. Released too early just to grab money. |
> 1 year ago |
@joker My son has a similar or same job at the Nevada Nuclear Testing Site. He has not seen Vista there either. My kid went to ITT, yours? |
> 1 year ago |
Nagila Cap - You are correct of course - I just forgot for the moment that this thread is about RAM and not storeage. Higher up this thread I'm explaining exactly this point to someone else. AHFA |
> 1 year ago |
Building another PC and MB needs DDR2 ram its cheap at 15 Quid a GIG, can't be bad. Have a look at this site. http://www.autdirect.co.uk/acatalog/ |
> 1 year ago |
@singlew4 - He was trained by the US Army in miniture electronics and ended up in computers. Funny thing is that when he worked for me he hated computers and said he would never use one if he could help it. After he got out of service he took some tests to determine expertise for college credit and then took the courses he needed to become a certified tech. |
> 1 year ago |
1 GB here also. |
I'll stick with Linux... Even with low system specs you can have a pretty fast up to date (Software wise) machine. |
> 1 year ago |
How much RAM has ROM got? Just thought I'd post the above as I'm off for my tea now and needed the point. |
> 1 year ago |
Nagila Mekon He will only read it! Sorry Brother couldn't resist. AHFA |
> 1 year ago |
I have 4 gig in my desktop but only running a 32bit operating system so I can only see 3gig. Keep meaning to upgrade to 64bit but its finding the drivers for all my devices is putting me off!!! |
> 1 year ago |
@Newlinux; Amen. Just burned two more boxen this weekend with the latest beta of Ubuntu... W~~~ |

2gb |
still only 4 gig but ddr2 800 still fast as ever even though xp can only see about 3.7 of it |
> 1 year ago |
2GB DDR2-PC6400(800mhz). Enough to run all I need on XP. On vista I would get 4gb though :-) |
> 1 year ago |
@interceptor02, Windows Vista 32bit with 4gb is faster then Windows Vista with 64bit with 4gb. Even when 32bit only uses 3-3.5gb of it. Cba to explain why, but with 4gb memory 32bit is faster then 64bit |
> 1 year ago |
I have 4gb on vista ultimate 32bit. P C runs slow watchingshare tv |
> 1 year ago |
@jimmytee that could be vista or connection speed what cpu are you running |
5 months ago |
My new computer I just had built has 16 GB DDR2 and dual AMD Phenom quad core processors and a high end graphics card with a dedicated 1GB memory,two,1TB internal SATA hard drives,Blue-Ray DVD player and a dvd/cd burner, all the interfaces you could need, plus card readers.A 26" HD,1080p,120Hz widescreen monitor. I'm liquid cooled and overclocking is mandatory! |
5 months ago |
@nogds9 - what ar eyou using that computer for? Are you a gamer? |
5 months ago |
Well apart from the obvious bullshit that would be impressive. Since I last posted in this thread I have have 16Gb DDR3 @ 1866Mhz |
5 months ago |
750 kperh, something or other Adding 512 more last summer was a real help. |
5 months ago |
My mistake;16gb DDR3 SDRAM @ 1866Mhz Yes,I am a gamer,plus I'm going to be running two OS,Vista and Linux.Bullshit?,certainly not.Next day off I will be working out my networking issues. |
5 months ago |
Still bullshit and you don't even know which part of it is not even possible do you? |
5 months ago |
4 gb of ram not going to post all would make easy picking for a good hacker. |
