Should I give you any clues? :-) |
OK, from now on lets make it that the person 'on go' should post clues from time to time if nobody is getting anywhere. Clue: the film was famously showcased within another film made 36 years later, though this quote was not. |
3 months ago |
Another clue: its one of the most famous romantic dramas ever made. |
3 months ago |
Last clue: a UK manufacturer of Automated Test Equipment took its name from the surname of this actress appended to the surname of a very famous actor. (I know this because I worked for them) |
3 months ago |
is that the very last clue?. i thought i had an idea but now i dont think i do ;( |
3 months ago |
do a google, you *must* be able to follow the clues dead easy :-) |
3 months ago |
Google sometimes mixes things around, but if you go on www.google.co.uk, google the technical phrase and select 'pages from the UK' then the important names are usually somewhere on the screen. |

Sorry :-( It was "An Affair To Remember" Deborah Kerr (Wayne Kerr ATE!!!) is telling her ex why she won't allow him to pay for her treatment, having been crippled by a car when crossing the road outside the Empire State Building on the way to meet Cary Grant at the top. The film was showcased in "Sleepless in Seattle". |

"How did you get here?" "I walked" "Walked?" "Safest way" "Walked from where?" "Poland" "That's over 200 miles" "I go to a good bootmaker. Sneyd in Clifford Street" The responder is tied up in a chair at the time. You can easily imagine the uniform worn by the questioner. |
3 months ago |
Come on! A map of Europe will show you the arc that is "over 200 miles from Poland". Look along that arc for a small but very significant town. Think of an actor who could play an obviously aristocratic Englishman with enough balls to out-face the Gestapo like this. |
3 months ago |
The actor was born in the 1930s, *not* in England. The film was made in the 1970's. His character as listed, the film's title, the initial premise, and the ongoing action throughout the film, all share the theme of hunting. |
3 months ago |
The location of the dialogue is Berchtesgaden, the year is 1939. |

okay it was hard but i think i may be almost there. is the actor peter o`toole? dont laught at least i try. |
3 months ago |
OK good, now its easy to identify which film, right? |
3 months ago |
no .lol murphy`s war |
Ouch - that is set "in the closing days of World War II", not 1939! Six lines further up on his IMDB page you will see... "Rogue Male" (usually refers to a stroppy item of big game) in which he plays the character identified as Hunter The dialogue comes when he has been caught just as he is about to put a high-velocity round through Hitler, after what he describes as a "sporting stalk". The rest of the film is about how he fares in a reversal of roles, being hunted to extinction for his temerity. I think you should have another go, and when its my turn again I will try to be a lot clearer with these things. |
3 months ago |
hi sorry ;( i was looking for a peter o`toole film filmed in 1970, so didnt concentrate on 1939 setting. lol. I will try harder. this is easy. You wanna waste my time? Okay. I call my lawyer. He's the best lawyer in Miami. He's such a good lawyer, that by tomorrow morning, you gonna be working in Alaska. |

I meant the quote - its out there word for word. Mine was not :-) try this one, rendered as colloquially as I can recall it :- "ah have said zat zere is to such a sing as a system and ah weel prove eet" for the avoidance of doubt, the words are :- "I have said that there is to such a thing as a system and I will prove it" have fun! |
2 months ago |
im confused now , so it doesnt have to be a proper movie quote? |
2 months ago |
What do you think constitutes a 'proper movie quote'? My understanding is that a proper movie quote is a quote of words spoken by a character or characters in a movie. I do not feel the need to limit myself to quotes which have been extracted by another person and published in some form. I would hope that you would not limit yourself in that way either! :-) All it needs is a good memory and a lot of movie-viewing! |
2 months ago |
time for a clue The words are spoken by a minor character, when the machine that is the object of this film's title, comes good. The speaker is the manager of the establishment where this happens. He is a Frenchman. |
2 months ago |
[This Post has been removed by a ShareTV Moderator] |
2 months ago |
whoops! slipped up there - he is an Italian. |
2 months ago |
This is awkward - he *should* be Italian, because of the location - but I feel sure he was played as a Frenchman. I now find that the actor playing him was born German - and to add to the confusion his character is not a manager but an inspector. That should be some more clues anyway :-) One more clue - the leading actor never played any films of this genre again, though he was a huge name, and though his performance in this film was given great notices. |
2 months ago |
The leading actor died at an unexpectedly young age. One of *his* lines in the film, is :- "PEAnut butter?" |

The action takes place in Venice. The minor character is an inspector of casinos. Is anyone still interested out there? |

N'thor, correct...your turn. |
@merl - I do exactly what you suggest should be done. Shold I apologise because the number of films I have actually seen covers less than 100f those being quoted from? If googling is barred, then there will be significant numbers of quotes which only the poster has knowledge of. That will slow things up considerably. I suggest that, rather than banning google, the hard thought should be undertaken by the poster, to choose a quote which can be deduced without having seen the film, but which is not google-able. Just my $0.02 - I'm happy to be overruled if the majority want to play this differently. :-) |
7 weeks ago |
People, chill out it is just a game. Does it really matter where the answer comes from. If someone dosen't know the answer and find it via google then good on them, they will have learned something new. Anyway here is a quote: "I don't want to die. And your men don't want to die, and these people certainly don't want to die. It's a shame you're in such a hurry to." |
7 weeks ago |
lol. i dont think google should be banned but its more fun if people try to think and guess the movie before turning straight to a search, :) thor i am off too think. |
7 weeks ago |
Let's all stand back a moment. We are members of a web-site (ok primarily about TV). The use of Google or any other search engine is part of the whole web experience. Any thread which requires identification of something leaves itself wide-open to members using such knowledge as they have or can find on the web. As Thor says finding the answer by searching enables the member to find out something new for themselves and by posting the answer shares that answer with others. Result ALL may learn or be entertained. To my mind that is the whole point of such enquiring threads. Otherwise it is merely a vehicle for one to say I know something you do not and surely that is what would be wrong. |
7 weeks ago |
If my post started this debate you all need to go back and read it again particularly the Rofl, the JUST ASK joke and the ;oD Now everyone get a grip and get on with the game! |

Lines spoken by a non-human, represented in the cast list only as a voice. The performer who spoke the lines, a lady whose older sister is a better known actress, is herself supposed to have spent the last decade or so in prison, for crimes committed against two of her other relatives, one of whom once co-starred with Yul Brynner. This may sound cryptic, but I believe you can solve the whole thing from it. |

Thats the main 'villain' replicant Roy Batty in Bladerunner played by Rutger Hauer in the scene at the end of the movie on the outside of a building with the rain pouring down his face. (BR is a movie I watch over and over). Based on the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K Dick. So whats this one ? "Because we're here boy, no one else; just us." An extra fun point for the name of the character. |
12 days ago |
I actually just saw Bladerunner for the first time a few months ago. I'm going to give it another view very soon. Regarding Philip K. Dick: I love when he's referenced, and some smart alec will inevitably ask "so, are you a big Dick fan?" =D My sci-fi knowledge doesn't run as deep as most on this forum, and I'm guessing that quark's quote is likely keeping with the sci-fi theme of the last couple films. The context also makes it seem like it's from a post disaster type film, or one where there are very few people involved? So, I'll take a wild stab and guess Predator? Jesse Ventura's character? |
12 days ago |
I can't place that new line yet but I did want to say that Quark got right off. Yes - I think Bladerunner is definately my fav. I have the PC game too - thats different but fun - got it back when windows 98 came out - hard to play on XP even with patches. 4 CDs - about 12 or more different endings. Time to Die was also said just after the bladerunner shot the dancer and (I can't believe I can't remember his character name - actor Brion James) grabbed BR by the throat. Have the Directors Cut CD. Just started watching Total Recall 2070 - so far alot like BR - without the rain. |

It was the quiet, sardonic sergeant-at-arms (or whatever his rank was - I'm no expert on the military). |
11 days ago |
OK it was Colour Sergeant Bourne speaking to the youngest soldier when he asked "why us Sergeant?" your turn wizz. |

"This will introduce you to Chicken Hawk" |

Two days and no takers - I guess we need a clue. There is a different bird in the title. |
9 days ago |
Hudson Hawk? |
no |
Wot, still no takers :-( Another clue - the actress whose character is being introduced, and the actor whose character wrote the introduction, are each famous for different films in which they die in exactly the same way! |

final clue - you *must* get it rom this... Think of Warren Beatty and Paul Newman |

@applejuice, @cabutchikas The rules of this thread are that you cannot post a question until you successfully answer the current question. Neither of you have named my film, so it's still my turn. |
7 days ago |
All right, softwizz, What is your question if it's your turn please? |
7 days ago |
To recap, you should think of Warren Beattie and Paul Newman. What ties them together in terms of film ending, and who might then be in the film from which I quoted? |
7 days ago |
A: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid |
no - the quote is "this will introduce Chicken Hawk", you named the wrong film |

I'm sorry, guys, my clue was more convoluted than that. To *fully* recap :- (1) Two days and no takers - I guess we need a clue. There is a different bird in the title. (2) Another clue - the actress whose character is being introduced, and the actor whose character wrote the introduction, are each famous for different films in which they die in exactly the same way! (3) final clue - you *must* get it from this... Think of Warren Beatty and Paul Newman (4) To recap, you should think of Warren Beattie and Paul Newman. What ties them together in terms of film ending, and who might then be in the film from which I quoted? Lets be clear about this, you need to think of an actress and an actor, each involved in a particular form of death onscreen in other films, and associated with one or other of these two named actors *in those same endings* |

Thanks wizz, I must admit I got it solely from the clues you gave, here's mine: "They wouldn't put me on a pedestal, so I'm layin' 'em on a slab!" |
4 days ago |
All that for Legal Eagles? J/k, but well done gedman! Looks like we're all back on track. Nice one wizz, lots of thought behind it, I would have never gotten it. My guess for gedmen is: Falling Down? |

Well done Icarus. For those who are unfamiliar with the movie: Todd and Margo Chester, the Griswold's yuppie neighbors, appear Todd: Hey Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big? Clark: Bend over and I'll show you. Todd: You've got a lot of nerve talking to me like that Griswold. Clark: I wasn't talking to you. Brilliant movie. If you haven't seen it check it out. |

Agreed. |

Whose turn is going to be today? |

Clark: I wasn't talking to you. - That was/is a memorable line. Ya gotta love Chevy Chase. @cabutchikas - some of us have jobs. Sorry to keep u waiting. What is that in you're pic - food? Are you a milk shake with ear muffs? .......... OK - This is from another one of my all-time favs - If you've seen it, then this will come to you easy: "You wouldn't want to go up there son. Theres nothing to eat up there now. Theres nothing but ice and snow and trees....You would be the only fresh meat up there. They'll come after you son. Just for the ugly fun of tearin' you apart". |
