Hello all. I was trying to find out who was calling me from a phone number, but all I get are sites that want to give me the basic information of location and want me to pay to find out who is calling me at home. Personally, I think I have a right to know this information, and should be able to find out for free. Any advice on this would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Phone company won`t give out the info and would you want them too ? What if it was you would you want your info just out there ?

i`ll call them and ask ,if you do not know them say put me on your don`t call list .

Google the number,if its one of those annoying firms other people may have complained about in other forums & may have outed it online.

Thanks for the information on Star Sixty Nine. I may have to call them eventually if I want to know that badly, however, I didn't want to have to speak to them if it's someone I know but don't particularly want to. As to the Phone Company Policy I pay extra to my land line service to keep my number blocked and private, but if we don't pay the extra it goes into a public phone number directory with our name street and city listed. (imho) Cell phone numbers should be no different. Plus, I pay for Caller ID, why doesn't it tell me the name of cell phone users? It almost always just says 'cellular' or 'cell phone' What I'm looking for is some sort of information on a website that will at least tell me the name of the person so I know if I even want to talk to them.

in the uk my caller ID shows mobile (cell phone numbers, unknown or caler mens that the number has been wthheld by the person phoning. If we dial 1471 it tells u the number, says i's wthheld or 'we do not have the callers number to return the call' (usually means it's overseas) if we then diall 3 it dials the callers number

Also in addition to windsor's post.

In the UK dial 141 before the number you are calling
and for that call only your number will be withheld.

They will then get the message
"you were called today at ... the caller withheld their number"

Often used by persons who are cold calling.

well, if you have the telephone # & are here in the U.S. you just go to: www.whitepages.com & then you click onto Reverse Lookup -- if the person is listed it gives you their name, phone number and location. no charge for looking it up on this site.

This is a very handy site if you're in the UK, I don't know if it works in any other countries you could always give it a go.

TY all. It is a Cell Phone number so Whitepages doesn't list it here. I will try that link, maybe with opendns it will work, who knows. I know it seems weird, but there are these two guys who keep on harassing me. They just want to come in and take advantage of our kindness, and Kirk might let them if he were up or here when they start pounding on the door, but he's not and he says even though it's his house I do not have to let anybody in if I don't want to. So I think one of them is using this number to try to call me, knowing I don't want to talk to him and that I will not answer to his number and any blocked numbers. Thanks again so much, keep the ideas coming.

I got the page not found but on the left side of the screen there was a place to type in a number and click on Get Details so I did. I did not get any details, but I did get an easy to use form to file any comments or complaints about the number, so I did that with a rant about cell phones. LOL here it's kinda funny...

"Stupid Cell Phone numbers. If you don't have them programmed in under a name in your phones directory they always come up as Anonymous caller, Cell Phone Caller, Cellular Customer, US Cellular, iwireless..etc. If you don't recognize the number then you don't know who it is. I hate it. One reason I still don't have one. Nyways, I have a right to know the name of the party calling my home phone land line and I will not answer if I don't."

@quark, don't worry about that, just put a number in the box and click on 'get details'. I just tried it and it worked.
