I know mate Sydney and Melbourne are on my visit list soon I as I have 10000 bucks I dont need lol London has tennis track and field football and cricket and some hockey it is hard to compare seperate Cities and countries for that matter because each city or country has its own sporting events the Germans have skiing hockey football track and swimming although I will give you the fact that downunder produces more swimmers and better swimmers. I think if anyone else answers us in this thread each will have reasons of their own for there city or country cheers mate |

no we dont get to see it a lot over here the odd time the put a game on at 4 am and if I am awake I will watch it |
||
Jan 23, 2008 8:36PM |
I would say Melbourne actually. They have pulled 100,000 crowds to soccer, afl, cricket, rugby, the games for a city of 3-4 million that is 1 in 30-40 going |
||
Jan 23, 2008 8:37PM |
you said it |
||
Jan 23, 2008 8:49PM |
you jest captsheridan of course. Aussie rules having hard tackles? hah! a mob of ballet dancers the lot of em. If you want to see hard tackles have a look at a game played by real men, namely rugby league. *paddedbag hides* |
||
Jan 23, 2008 8:50PM |

I am not very interested in football but it must be the top sport in the whole world. Most of the best teams in the world are in the UK. I must admit that Australia is a great sporting nation - but not at football. |

I would have to agree with mekon, it probably started from the UK. Historians aside the Brits made it a Gentlemans game. Generally a honourable sport on the field anyways, not so much with the unruly fans of the last 15 years. |
||

@mekon we did make it to the finals of the last world cup |
||

@Fozzy your a bit off base with you unruly fans of the last 15 years comment, you would be more accurate to have said unruly fans of 25yrs ago! 99% of fans over here are fairly well behaved,its not perfect, but probably never will be. |

Nagila Romeo53 and fine results against the best opposition it took to get there. lol. How long before they came home again? Never mind I acknowledge that in most sports Oz rules or is in the top 5. AHFA |

It would appear the U.S. is the sporting capital of the whole world if the world series baseball is to be used as an example. This is surely U.S. self importance at it's most galling! |
||

nagila quark yeah we do love sports and for a country of 20 million we don't do bad on the world stage at most sports AHFA |

In the big scheme of things probably not. In was good to see Tendulkar get his first 100 in a one day match in Australia, amazing to think he has never done it before. |

@gedmen, We pride ourselves no more than you folks from the UK or Australia.Self importance is not our motivation,good sportsmanship is. My goodness,I'm the only American to have commented on this page.America and Japan are the only countries that play baseball that I know of.I'm sure Abner Doubleday would turn over in his grave if the UK ever brought itself to play American baseball. |

@nogds9 sorry bud,I thought the forum had gone a bit flat the last few days so I thought I'd spice things up by 'throwing a curve ball' into the mix, no great offence was intended. Do the U.S. Canada & Japan ever compete against each other in a 'world series' or the like? |
||
11 months ago |
@gedmen, none taken,just thought I'd speak up for the Americans. I didn't know Canada played baseball,they've got some damn good football.I think there have been all star games between Japan and Americans.To bad there isn't a real World Championship.Would love to see the Britt's play. Personally I like lacrosse and enjoy Aussie rules football,when I can get it.Peace man. |
