In my opinion, some of the best game out there have sequels.
Kingdom Hearts series
Legend of Zelda series
Super Mario series
Final Fantasy series
Halo series
I'm going to get flamed for this one: DragonBall Z Budokai: Tenkaichi series
Need for speed series
Metroid prime series
Battlefield series
And a couple of others
But there are other games that don't have sequels that match up, examples:
Crysis (Awesome)
World of Warcraft (not really a game with a sequel)
Counter-Strike: Source

What are your opinions?

The best games are the ones that change the way games play.

Elite,
Doom,
Civilization II,
Ultima Online,
Battlefield 1942 (Desert Combat Mod),
Dawn Of War,
Portal.

at this point, I'd have to go with... for final fantasy, it's gotta be VII, though 10/10-2 isn't bad

Duke Nukem, Doom3, Return to Wolfenstein, QuakeX (1-4).

And now to show my age though:
Zork 1-3. These made you think and use your imagination. Arguably not going to make much use of that water-cooled video card but then again, my imagination (and whatever controlled substances were available) made for one hell of a great game.

well thats my opinion because the added new places and a couple of new vehicles and teak the graphics and apperences a bit. But a good game nonetheless.

I haven't played many games in over a decade, so anything coming out after that is way past my knowledge. So with that caveat:

Super Mario Bros & Super Mario World.
Legend of Zelda
Tecmobowl (doesn't stand the test of time, but really kick started the genre)
Street Fighter series - classic fighting game, some will prefer Mortal Kombat.

The Street fighter games are my favorite of all time. I still play them on my Super nintendo emulator every once in a blue moon.

I noticed early on my propensity to get addicted to games (They are too good now) so I just stay away. You've got to know your weaknesses.

For those who like zelda and mario, I recommend Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. In particular FF VII and all KH sequels. For PS3 owners you are in luck. FF VII came out on the PS1, but to my knowledge Square Enix are re-designing the game for the PS3. There are videos on youtube.

FFVII all the way, they made crisis core for pp which is being dubbed for 08 and is the 4th FFVII installment all in all, Square are vusy on the PS3 version as you say and hopefully it goes a lil furthen than the Zack, Nibleheim spin off too.

@jameshowson :Starcraft was amazing, all the westwood games too (C&C)

I WONDER IF ANYONE MANAGED TO DRESS CLOUD AS THE RIGHT KINDA WOMAN TO GET INTO DIO'S CLUB IN SECTOR 7G (DISC 1) I SAW A HOMO-EROTIC SCENE OF HIM WHERE HE GOT INTO A JACUZZI AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT WHEN A BUNCH OF GUYS JOINED HIM IN THERE WITH LITTLE PINK THONGS ON, THIS IS NO WORD OF A LIE BUT I CAN FIND NO REFERENCE TO IT ANYWHERE. THIS WAS AGES AGO BUT IT'S THE BIT WHERE YOU HAVE TO PUT ON A WIG AND A DRESS AND WHEN YOU GET IN PICK 1 OF 10 DOORS, I PICKED DOOR 1 TO SEE THAT AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET IN SINCE, REPLAYING THIS ON MY PSP NOW AND IT'S AMAZING

Have you ever heard of Solar Quest,a board game played much like monopoly. You travel around the Solar system buying up the moons and space docks around the planets. You also use fuel as you travel the board,so you have to keep this dynamic in mind lest ye be stranded. There are consequence cards should you roll doubles and you may attack other ships with your lasers.
Like in Monopoly you hope to own all the moons around any planet because the rent become higher. And if you improve your moon with a fueling station you can sell fuel to your opponents. The game came out in 1986,loads of fun.
