What is Mike and Ikes? |
Nov 10, 2007 8:37AM |
Mike and Ikes a candy brand introduced by Just Born in 1940 that come in several flavors. Mike and Ikes were first created in 1927. They are fruit chewy candies that come in several colors and varieties, being in essence jelly beans with a slightly more oblong shape. They are fairly popular at movie theaters and drive-ins. Mike and Ike relates back to the founders who, in the 50s, named the candy after family friends Mike Greene and Ike Johnson. see http://www.justborn.com/products/mike_ike.html |

Ruyan: Actually, one thing that a guy I used to party with in the Army about 1000 years ago turned me onto was deceptively simple to make and yet to this day I still consider it a treat which is basically cooking some chicken ramen "low" (meaning with very little liquid, just enough to cook the noodles), then mixing in a tin of tuna and a can of cheddar cheese soup. Finally, the kicker was to add "hot" where hot is defined as anything from Tobasco (only if *nothing* else is available) to cayenne pepper or if I am feeling particularly jaunty, and of the Daves Insanity sauces (http://www.davesgourmet.com/, best hot sauces in the freaking world). Nice thing is you only need either a single pan or even a plastic bowl and a microwave; whole thing (in the MW) is done in < 6 minutes. I call this a two dollar taste of heaven. |

Nov 10, 2007 11:34PM |
I'm not big on sweets, but I like Raw Veggies...Celery, Carrots, Cauliflower, with some light ranch dressing, and a watered down glass of sugar-free mountain dew. Sometimes I make chicken breast strips with buffalo sauce too and once in a blue moon I have a bowl of pineapple chunks. |
Nov 11, 2007 12:15AM |
@curious Now you're talking Tinned Mandarin orange segments, sliced peaches, & pears halves. Yum yum (NOT the Mikado) |

Poutine or Beaver Tails my fellow Canadians will know LOL |
Nov 11, 2007 9:58AM |
@wiplash Mate, that sounds like a crime against nature, but I'll try it out anyway! I just need a replacement for the cheddar cheese soup, we don't have it here in germany. (or gotta ask my sis, she lives in Norwich) @curious I dig the whole veggie thing, but this "a watered down glass of sugar-free mountain dew" made me shiver! |
Nov 11, 2007 10:37AM |
A box of Belgian chocolates!!!!! Simply the best!!!! |
Nov 11, 2007 10:40AM |
@Ruyan: Not sure that I see the crime part (other than the crime that Ramen represents to some people) but equally fun replacements for the cheddar cheese soup in a can is a can of either cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup. Diced chicken breast or turkey breast can stand in for the tuna. Diced grilled ham also works with the cheese soup portion. I am trying to remember what I used to buy at the Aldi when I lived in Berlin in the 80's but it has been too many years/substances ago...seems like there was a work-alike for Velveeta which when melted and mixed with a tiny bit of butter and milk makes the cheese soup. Of course now we are drifting away from the "make it in 6 minutes" idea but still, it works. |
Nov 11, 2007 11:22AM |
@wiplash Mushroom cream soup sounds nice, I'll give that one a try! I know how to do cheese soup, we do it with leek and ham btw, but you can't get it in a can afaik. Talkin about Ramen... I once took an involuntary shot of Sesame oil up my nose while making ramen. I tried to open the little plastic oil package with my teeth, while stiring the soup... little bastard exploded right into my nose! Took a day to get the sesame smell out of my nose (freaked me out, because you smell something noone else smells all the time). |
Nov 11, 2007 11:52AM |
Of course you can always kick it up a notch as they say with a little sauteed onion, diced bacon and garlic. I think when I lived in Germany the local grocery had fruhstuck fleisch which grilled up very nicely as well..We are well on our way to making stone soup at this point but what the hell. FWIW, if you go either the mushroom soup route, adding a tin of peas, corn or even green beans and then topping it with Parmesan cheese is very nice too... |
Nov 11, 2007 12:06PM |
@whip,take stuffing mix and add your soup and other ingredients top with cheese and bake it till a toothpick stuck in it comes out clean.Let it sit a few minutes to firm up and slice it,great with some kind of sauce. |
Nov 11, 2007 12:57PM |
@Azo: Hmmm stuffing baked with hot sauce...what an intriguing idea... |
Nov 11, 2007 1:53PM |
@hush320 You have to concentrate to eat?!!! Wish I did. Dark chocolate with burnt almonds, popcorn (not microwave) c butter (real stuff), red wine, homemade 'Timmies' Icy Caps, nachos. @fishylynn Poutin would be great but too much work, I don't think anyone delivers around here. Beeeeaver Tails MMMMMMMM with cinamon sugar or maybe maple syrup. Great. I just ate, and now my mind is hungry! Hope I have some chocolate |
Nov 11, 2007 8:02PM |
cheddar cheese Doritos and the the strongest salsa you can get/buy/make but without big chunks (the chunks are cold in your mouth, like cheese) Also nachos. Also cheddar doritos on they're own. Ritz with creamed corn dip. Caramello koalas melted in the microwave and put on top of anything you can think of. And of course, a good ole' sandwhich. pick your meat, a few herbs (rosemary is the new oil :P), mayo, salt, cheese, tomato, tiny little bit of lettuce, one or two drops of barbecue sauce strategically placed throughout, beetroot (usually, but depends on the meat). and of course a good amount of effort. Thats a standard sandwhich, the more creative the better. |
Nov 11, 2007 8:20PM |
@aus5543 How about a Vegemite Sandwich?!? |
Nov 11, 2007 8:43PM |
Great, but not for watching tv. Actually one of our morning shows (ie: Today) had a poll on whether people liked it spread thick or thin, 70% thin. I'm with them. Have you ever tasted vegemite? you always seem to suggest it to me :P |
Nov 11, 2007 11:10PM |
has to be vegemite on toast or crumpets |
Nov 12, 2007 12:48AM |
uuuuuuggghhh!!! My dad used to make us eat vegemite when we were young. Huuurl! Bad childhood memories hehe |
Nov 12, 2007 4:01AM |
wats vegemite? |
Nov 12, 2007 4:56AM |
Vegemite and Marmite are made of concentrated yeast extract and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Vegemite is very popular down under, Marmite is big in th UK and New Sealand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegemite http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmite Both smell like something crawled into the bottle and died. |
Nov 12, 2007 4:59AM |
New Zealand of course... |
Nov 12, 2007 5:00AM |
Yucky! Yuck! Vegemite sounds horrible, diffinatle not snack material for me, I think Belgian Chocolates would be much better. @fishylynn You are right there those are great canadian foods |
Nov 12, 2007 5:01AM |
but you can't spread it to thick has to be thin |
Nov 12, 2007 5:31AM |
Vegemite is horrible, its engine grease with salt! |
Nov 12, 2007 5:35AM |
you know what they sat diffrent strokes for diffrent folkes |
Nov 12, 2007 5:49AM |
@jazzband Theres is no need to eat that much while watching TV. But i would luv chocolate. |
Nov 12, 2007 6:04AM |
Depends on how much TV you're watchting. But Vegemite is indeed a tricky one! I think you have to grow up with it to like it (even if viciouslollipop is the living refutation [maybe grow up with it, without beeing forced to eat...]). You see... Vegemite is tricky! I totally forgot to mention Currywurst ! Heaven on earth... in your mouth! Some fries with it (with mayonnaise [yes we put it on fries!]) and you're set. |
Nov 12, 2007 6:18AM |
@ruyan I think Marujuana will be more tricky than Vegemite when it is backed in a sandwitch. And my special treatment when watching movies is smoking hash oil, i used it once and i felt like i was in the movie. PS: tell me more about Vegemite. |
Nov 12, 2007 6:19AM |
Ruyan; I miss the currywurst and the (ashamed to say) boulletten (sp) with curry catsup...oh so good.. |
Nov 12, 2007 6:52AM |
@wip Dude, I was in Berlin two weeks ago (living in the south west I don't get to visit Berlin that often) and lived on currywurst and Buletten for 3 days! Found something funny... watch a typical german granny do her family recipe Buletten! http://www.hausgemacht.tv/essen-trinken/rezepte/860,30,wie-mache-ich-richti ge-buletten.html?node_id=30 Mouth watering! @hush To me that's all gibberish and now I know why. |
Nov 12, 2007 7:26AM |
What a great site. Thanks I grew up calling them 'frikadellen' with a trade of parsley & nutmeg for the garlic. For those who can't get vegimite or marmite and want to try it, soak and OXO cube (veggie for vegimite, beef for marmite) in a tiny amount of water until it makes a paste et voilà. What you can't bring yourself to eat you can make gravy with. |
Nov 12, 2007 9:45AM |
Reese's PeanutButter Cups!!!...MT.DEW!... Hubby usually makes us nachos on "movie" night...those are good too. Pizza is always good. Totino's chicken quesadilla rolls with sour cream...yummmm.... We have a friend who works for Frito Lay...so we always rolling in chips and snacks from there...lol.. |
Nov 12, 2007 10:50AM |
Any chips (potato or corn) then cover with cheese (colby) then in the microwave. Topped with mayo its all good!! Yes i see that it will limit my TV watching in the sense of life expectancy but its good |
Nov 12, 2007 11:00AM |
hmmm... is it just me or did anyone else expect something totally different from a person called "choclaterocket" ? :D |
Nov 12, 2007 1:39PM |
panera cookies, taco bell, dr. pepper, arby's curly fries, ice cream |
Nov 12, 2007 9:50PM |
If I were to go off the deep end a pint of HagenDaz rum raisin ice cream and a pound of hazelnut truffles.gahhhhhh, drool, drop dead. |
Nov 12, 2007 10:36PM |
Vegemite is great people, it's REEEAAAALLLLLYYYYYY salty but apart from that, mmmm mmm. Great on a sandwhich thinly spread of course with processed cheese (you know, the plastic stuff) it's all that processed cheese is good for. It is quite possible to choke on vegemite though, I don't recommend eating it with a spoon straight from the jar. Same thing with cordial, make sure you dilute it. |
Nov 13, 2007 9:46AM |
from what I can tell Vegemite is somewhat similar to margarine, with a different taste, they are both pretty nasty in my opinion but at least Vegemite sounds cool! |
Nov 13, 2007 10:07AM |
@curious,far from margarine,no fat and high in protien, salty like miso. They use it like we use peanut butter. Try peanut butter with bananas and bacon sandwich. (miso is fermented soy,the best is aged a few years) |

@romeo53 Android bodies are designed to seamlessly replicate the functions of the human shell, in fact some of the most elite models come complete with an artificial soul called the eSSentZ Chip. |

Chips and orange juice. :D |
Nov 14, 2007 2:09PM |
Lilyth: Slither was great although we will both likely get our chops busted for mentioning a movie here...even though neither of us would have watched it if not for a certain TV show... |

@whiplash2007 haha :D you're my new best friend ;) <3 |

Nov 15, 2007 12:58AM |
Definitely cheese. Can't beat a nice, fat lump of cheese to chomp on while watching TV |
Nov 15, 2007 5:40PM |
And a few pints of scrumpy or beer to top it off |
Nov 15, 2007 8:21PM |
Just finished a plate of nacho chips with beans, taco meat and cheese (baked) while having a mini X-Files marathon. Later, since we just acquired the entire run of Jack of All Trades (Bruce Campbell fans) we will watch that while having a nice creme brulee. Yum. Ruyan: Tomorrow going on vacation so will be attempting buletten based on the above video. Mixed up the curry catsup tonight already. Will have that while checking out Hellsing Ultimate. I know how to treat a lady (my wife).. |

Nov 15, 2007 10:46PM |
they sure put half a jar of MAYO on those chicken sandwiches at BK don't they?!!?! |

Nov 15, 2007 11:02PM |
I don't know bout that , but the Canadians sure love it on their fries!! |
Nov 16, 2007 12:28AM |

dr. peppper!!!!!!!! best thing ever and those snicker ice cream bars! redunc delic |
Nov 21, 2007 11:38AM |
All right, this sounds gross, but it's really good. You take a potato chip (ripples work best) put some dill pickle dip on it and then a smoked oyster and another potato chip. So it's like a little sandwich. deeeeelish......no I wasn't prego when I came up with that one. |
Nov 21, 2007 11:47AM |
@Lolly; you are spot-on: it sounds horrid. I will stick with creme brulee. Actually tonight I am going to have a GITS:SAC marathon with some home-made buletten as per the recipe Ruyan shared above. Yum! |
Nov 21, 2007 11:49AM |
@Vicious LOL are you sure!!!! I have to say it does sound very gross, mind you I have peanut butter on hotdogs which my wife thinks is gross as well, so to each their own. |
Nov 21, 2007 11:52AM |
I guess there is just no accounting for taste((((((mine)))))) hehehe. It was an accidental find really, at a party, they got mixed up on my "feux" plate. Who puts out like 2 by 2 inch plates....come on really! It might have been a coaster. |
Nov 21, 2007 11:54AM |
@Vicious LMAO now that is a discovery, sort of like discovering plutonium by accident. I love your posts they are very entertaining |
Nov 21, 2007 11:58AM |
It's kind of like the find of choclate ice cream and Kokanee beer floats. But that wasn't me, my friend just didn't realize where he was pouring, but ate it any way...waste not want not. |
Nov 21, 2007 12:12PM |
Yes I had the same experience, Just with Rickard Red, no singing guys in red robes that time :-) |
Nov 21, 2007 2:22PM |
LMAO I could just see bald guy putting a scoop of ice cream in the rickards just as he is looking up and the music is at a cresendo. |
Nov 21, 2007 4:03PM |
LOL you are right, would probably do well at the world best commerial festival, Can't say it tasted the best though, but you know I can't waste beer |
Nov 21, 2007 7:29PM |
Ruyan: the buletten were wunderbar! Had them whilst watching Spooks... |
Nov 22, 2007 3:29AM |
Nice dude! I like to give them an oriental twist by adding peppers and filling them with feta cheese. Great for a BBQ along with filled (or grilled) tomatoes and fried potatoes! |
Nov 22, 2007 12:57PM |
Ruyan; I think I overdid the seltzer though; they tended to fall apart quite easily until they had a chance to cook for a bit. Thus BBQ and additional water-based veggies are out of the question. Still it was fun making and took me back to my years in Berlin... |
Nov 22, 2007 1:29PM |
chocolate and jelly bears |
Nov 23, 2007 4:54PM |
When I watch a favorite show, nothing goes better than a Hot Cup of Coffee, and freshly made Chocolate Chip cookies. Considering, how I hardly watch television, but I am a fan of a few shows like Numb3rs, Moonlight, One Saturday Morning - Miss that like Hell- I would say its rare to find a television program that keeps me entertained. |
Nov 23, 2007 5:52PM |
Ruyan; Took four left-over buletten, chopped with some onion, baked BBQ beans, cup of brown sugar and cup of Yoshida teriyaki sauce, mixed in baking dish and is now baking oven until bubbly. Will top with a dose of Spooks and serve in about 30 minutes. *Excellent*. @Pink one: We too love the coffee angle; have some fresh-ground hazelnut cream coffee in my hands right now, waiting for the above beans to cook. Just finished a GITS:SAC marathon... Happy Friday all. Whip |
Nov 23, 2007 6:29PM |
Hey what's wrong with a good ole' bag of salted peanuts? |
Nov 23, 2007 7:04PM |
Wip, that sounds great! I always chop the leftovers and fry them with potatoes in a pan. And yeah, you gotta be carefull with the Selters! The important part is the soaked and squeezed roll and the breadcrums and just a dash of Selters. pinky: I'm not really a chocolate fan (the darker the better) but freshly made Chocolate Chip cookies rock! |
Nov 23, 2007 9:26PM |
@Quark;The peanuts (saltier the better) are great and I love them! They just don't love me and tear me up inside... @Ruyan; I think I dashed too much on the seltzer...but it still turned out great. |
Nov 25, 2007 2:58PM |
Thats funny how so many people will abbreviate nicknames, and why in the Hell is the word Abbreviate so long? The English language is serious messed up. There are more rules in the English language than any other combined. @Whiplash: And HazelNut and Creme is a party for my senses, and one of my favorites. Thanks for teasing a coffee addict. Haha, I am trying to quit coffee, but I cant seem to live without it. Its a necessity DAMN IT! And its funny, I been taking a notice, and I don't really eat anything when I am watching my favorite show, Haha, I guess, I cant multi-task very well, if I lose my eye coordination when I am using my mouth. Haha. Pretty Sad. Haha. Life sucks when you get older. |
Nov 26, 2007 11:26AM |

Nov 26, 2007 12:02PM |
@quark That is one of my favorites I can eat a kilo of those watching an hour show, usually pay for it the next day. |

lately--lemonheads Not entirely sure why, especially since my current favorite show is bones and sometimes it's... juicy |
Nov 26, 2007 8:15PM |
Lemon heads rock, but eat too many of those and they will kill your taste buds. Haha. And I have actually noticed, that my choice of appetizer is finger-nails. All those suspenseful scenes that you hope carry to your nightmares. Fingernails, have all kinds of protein in them. |
Nov 26, 2007 8:17PM |
^.^ oh yes, my tastebuds have died many times (like a cat, only not furry, and not like sandpaper... okay, that's weird o.O) *after looking at my own fingernails* yes, i don't think I am lacking protein as of late either... |
Nov 26, 2007 8:28PM |
@ Lilyth: You're an interesting character to talk with. Anything else, like you like music that can make you go defLeopards in minutes? Haha I am so clever |
Nov 26, 2007 8:30PM |
Right after I had stomach surgery I could not get enough sour stuff...favorite was the Lifesavers sours...you had to keep moving them around your mouth or it would feel like it burns a hole through your tongue... The sour apple ones were the best. |
Nov 26, 2007 8:33PM |
Sour candy is a mistake, I dont see how people can eat that stuff. Its annoying in color, and in taste. The last sour candy I had was Sour Gummy Worm, Yikes, was making everything taste like that for a day, no matter what I washed it down with, I drawn the line at Soap. |

PW: I think pork rinds are a mistake; also find marshmallow-based candy grotesque. After surgery, my taste-buds went nuts for extremes, hot (like habanero) and sour. No idea why. Cannot get enough of it. I keep a big jar of cayenne at the office and literally everything from chicken soup to spaghetti to roast beef get the treatment. |

I like any and all music that is capable of making one's eyes cross twelve times before they finally give up trying to understand and allow themselves to LISTEN--at last begining to comprehend... Sour is fun at times. I once made a cake that had plain kool-aid (right out of the package) on it to add color. A friend requested it, and no matter how hard I tried *(though I must admit that my attempts were minimal)* to talk her out of it, the girl insisted... As a result, a huge bite was taken of the cake and I was not spoken to for a week ^.^ ever since then, sour is my chocolate |

Thats precious, now I have been addressed to the same abbreviation as Password. What is the password? (@Whiplash) Okay, people are entitled to their opinion, I have never under-gone surgery, I have never had to wear prescription glasses. And my attention-span is worse that a 6yr old. Heh, slight exaggeration? --Off topic again-- @NIP: Question, is it Really a Big deal, to Talk your age? People say I don't. |
Nov 26, 2007 8:54PM |
I say, who the hell sets the standards that dictate the ways in which certain age groups are supposed to talk? |
Nov 26, 2007 8:58PM |
"Hell" I thought was more of a place rather than a person. But they're still both considered nouns, so don't let me get in your way... |
Nov 26, 2007 9:00PM |
why don't you just talk the way you want to i don't care how people talk as long as we can talk to each other and can comuicate |
Nov 26, 2007 9:02PM |
@Romeo: Now if I understand you right, it doesn't matter what is said, as long as things are being said? |

Best Snack in the World? Your opinion? Whether you are watching Television or not? (I was trying to make up for all the talk on "talking". Heh. |
Nov 26, 2007 9:03PM |
Ah--where I come from Hell is indeed a person and his reach cannot be measured... sometimes Hell is even "people" |
Nov 26, 2007 9:03PM |

Try This.. Pornstar Cocktail 1 oz. Cherry Vodka 1 oz. Blue Curacao 2-3 Dashes Grenadine Sprite or 7-up Combine in a shaker with ice, stir gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Drink should be a purple-blueish color. You can change the sweetness of drink by the amount of grenadine put in it. Enjoy! and (my preferences Add 1 teaspoon Ripe Lemon Juice)Works for me |
